Hamilton Academical twice came from behind to salvage a point away to Partick Thistle in an entertaining clash at Petershill Park.

Clare Docherty and Cara McBrearty put the hosts in front in both halves but a Cheryl McCulloch own goal and Tara McGonigle’s strike saw the game end 2-2 and move Accies off the bottom of the table.

The first half was fairly even with both sides playing some decent football as they tried to find an opening. Hamilton were first to threaten on 19 minutes with Lucy Sinclair denied after a promising run before the Jags defence cleared ahead of Josi Giard.

Two back-to-back chances followed with Chloe Muir’s effort being pushed behind by Danica Dalziel, before the unmarked Georgie McTear headed over from the corner.

That miss would instantly prove costly with Thistle taking the lead from their goal kick. Dalziel played the ball out to Rosie Slater whose ball forward was brilliantly controlled by London Pollard before clipping a great ball through for Teigan McCann who squared for Docherty to tap home.

Ten minutes later however, Accies did find the net. Giard did well on the left of the box to find a yard of space to get the ball across goal, with her deflected cross being nodded by McCulloch into her own net.

The fast pace to the game continued after the break with Thistle first to threaten with the dangerous Pollard finding Amy Bulloch in the area, but she couldn’t get any power in her shot.

At the other end, Freya MacDonald had to be alert to clear the ball off the line before Thistle broke again and were only denied by a smart save from Accies’ trialist goalkeeper.

Then came a moment of controversy. Docherty drove her way into the box and looked to evade a tackle from McTear before going to ground, although she did quickly get back to her feet to get the ball but not before referee Chris Gentles had pointed for a penalty. Replays though show that there was no contact, so it was perhaps just fair that Bulloch’s spot-kick was well kept out.

Just past the hour mark though, Thistle would regain the lead and in some style yet again with Pollard’s great ball over the top being hammered home by McBrearty.

Accies fought back well again and needed just three minutes to find their second leveller, with McGonigle finding space well to volley into the far corner, although Dalziel didn’t cover herself in glory.

Both sides went in search of the winner but in the end, a share of the spoils was fair and it’s a result both sides will be relatively satisfied with as they head into the international break.
