SWPL 2 fixtures adapted after Scottish Government guidelines updated

October 9th 2020

As outlined in yesterday’s SWF update to clubs, there would be some required changes to the SWPL 2 fixtures. This is following the Scottish Government’s announcement on 7th of October and the Scottish FA Joint Response Group’s update on 8th of October.

As noted in our communication, SWPL 1 & SWPL 2 are exempt from the new restrictions as they fall under the category of professional sport as designated by the Scottish Government. All clubs within these leagues are permitted to train and play in line with existing Return to Play protocols.

However, games must remain as local as possible. This has no impact on SWPL 1 but SWPL 2 fixtures have been adapted in the following ways, as approved by the League Management Committee:

  • Round 1 fixtures (scheduled for 18th October) will be swapped with Round 8 fixtures (scheduled for 29th November).
  • Round 2 fixtures (scheduled for 25th October) will be swapped with Round 9 fixtures (scheduled for 6th December).

The fixtures are therefore as follows:

Sunday 18th October

Aberdeen v Dundee United
Glasgow Women v Stirling University
Hamilton Academical v Boroughmuir Thistle
St Johnstone v Kilmarnock
Queen’s Park v Partick Thistle

Sunday 25th October

Boroughmuir Thistle v Aberdeen
Kilmarnock v Hamilton Academical
Partick Thistle v Dundee United
Queen’s Park v Glasgow Women
Stirling University v St Johnstone

The above approach allows for SWPL 2 fixtures to remain as local as possible and ensures the smooth running of the competition.
