Women’s football in Scotland has received another boost thanks to a gift of 100 new Mitre Delta Max Plus footballs from the SPFL, in time for the second half of the Scottish Building Society SWPL season.
This follows a memorable debut FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, in which the Scotland women’s national team captured the country’s imagination.
The second half of the Scottish Building Society SWPL season resumes on Sunday, 4 August following a mid-season break. The footballs will be branded with the Scottish Building Society logo.
The move comes on the back of the SPFL’s new four-year sponsorship deal with Mitre, which will run until 2023. The SPFL will also donate footballs to the Highland League, Lowland League, East of Scotland League and to the Scottish Schools FA.
Mitre has been the Official Match Ball Supplier of the Scottish league times since 1998.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “We are proud to donate 100 footballs to the Scottish Building Society SWPL.
“Women’s football is going from strength to strength, as demonstrated by the performances of the Scotland women’s national team at the FIFA World Cup in France. We are pleased to be able to support the domestic game with the donation of Mitre Delta Max Plus footballs.
“Mitre footballs have been a staple of Scottish football for 20 years. We look forward to not only continuing this partnership but also to work with Mitre to help to grow our game.”
Fiona McIntyre, Scottish Women’s Football chief executive, said: “Interest in the women’s game in Scotland is at an all-time high.
“We’re grateful to the SPFL and Mitre for supporting the Scottish Building Society SWPL with this generous donation of Mitre Delta Max footballs as we prepare for an exciting second half of our domestic season.”
Sean Kavanagh, Global Director of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship at Mitre, said: “We have enjoyed an excellent partnership with the SPFL for many years and are thrilled to extend that partnership into the senior women’s league this season for the first time. The Mitre ball is synonymous with Scottish football and we are excited to support the growth of women’s football.”
