#SBSSWPL 2: FC Kilmarnock v Glasgow Girls

October 2nd 2018

Glasgow Girls FC were welcomed to Rugby Park by FC Kilmarnock on Sunday 30th September in what would be the team’s third and final league clash of the season. Previous games have resulted in a 0-1 win for Glasgow Girls on May 13th and a 1-1 draw on June 20th. After a close game, today’s match ended in a 0-0 draw which is only the second time an SBSSWPL 2 game has finished goalless this season.

During the first half, the game was open to both sides. Both teams were going for the win, with possession and control of the game evenly matched.

FC Kilmarnock did well to keep the game deadlocked going into half-time. An attempt at goal by Lauren Evans for Glasgow Girls FC was cleared by FC Kilmarnock goalkeeper, Holly Kerrigan, and a rebounded shot was headed off of the line by Lynne Jackson, denying Glasgow Girls an opening goal.

The second half of the game was again evenly matched with both teams applying pressure, but unable to find the back of the net. Abby Robinson and Lynne Jackson both played well on the wings for FC Kilmarnock and for Glasgow Girls FC, Lauren Coleman and Evans did well in creating chances.

In the last 15 minutes, the game seemed to be swaying FC Kilmarnock’s way as they put the Glasgow Girls defence under pressure several times. Glasgow defended well though, denying FC Kilmarnock’s attempts on goal.

A nod must be given to both keepers, Kerrigan for FC Kilmarnock and Lauren Bullock of Glasgow Girls, both who managed to keep clean sheets with some good saves. A tight game lead to the 0-0 draw with both teams leaving with a well fought point a piece.

The next league tie for Glasgow Girls FC will be a home game to the SBSSWPL 2 champions, Motherwell LFC, on Sunday 21st October at Petershill Park. FC Kilmarnock will travel to McDiarmid Park to face St Johnstone, where a win would move FC Kilmarnock a step closer to securing 2nd place in the league.
