Glasgow City continued their winning start to the season with a convincing win over Rangers at Petershill Park.
Doubles from Lara Ivanusa and Jordan McLintock and further goals from Hayley Lauder, Kirsty Howat, Joanne Paton and a Terri Donnelly own goal made it consecutive 8-0 wins for Scott Booth’s side.
These two teams met at Broadwood in the SWPL Cup semi-final a fortnight ago with City running out 5-1 winners so it was no surprise when they moved ahead after only ten minutes. Last week’s four goal hero Kirsty Howat got in behind down the right and her low ball across goal was diverted into her own net by Terri Donnelly.
It was two just three minutes later when Lara Ivanusa worked space for a shot which flew past Khym Ramsay and into the net via the underside of the bar. Slovenian international Ivanusa then scored again soon after, slotting home from close range after the ball fell to her in the box.
City were relentless and almost got a fourth when Howat volleyed over the bar, but they didn’t have to wait long for the next goal with Megan Foley racing down the right and cutting the ball back to the edge of the box where it was dummied by Jo Love and fired into the net by the onrushing Hayley Lauder.
Both Love and Foley were denied goals by Ramsay in the visitor’s net as City continued to bombard the Gers defence.
Rangers’ only chance of the half came just before the break when Hayley Sinclair was able to get a shot on goal, but she could only fire straight at Lee Alexander from outside the box.
Number five for City came on 56 minutes when Howat eventually forced the ball home after Lauder had clipped it over Ramsay in the box.
Jordan McLintock came off the bench just beyond the hour mark and took only two minutes to get her name on the score sheet, which she did in spectacular fashion, picking the ball up on the edge of the area before firing a left footed shot into the top corner of the net.
There was almost a second for Lauder when she sent a free kick past Ramsay, but the inside of the post came to the away side’s rescue before the ball was cleared.
Foley shot straight at Ramsay with Leanne Crichton’s header from a corner then cleared off the line by Chantelle Brown as Rangers just about kept City at bay, however, they couldn’t keep them out much longer.
Nicola Docherty burst down the left flank before sending a low ball across the six yard box for substitute Joanne Paton to tap home.
City completed the scoring in stoppage time when Ramsay came rushing out to Foley who clipped the ball over the keeper to McLintock who knocked home her second of the afternoon.
Rangers are at home to bottom of the table Stirling University next weekend while Glasgow City make the trip to the capital to face Spartans.
