Priscila Chinchilla of Glasgow City has been voted as the winner of the Scottish Building Society SWPL Player of the Month for May 2021.
The Costa Rican international, who joined the club in December, has been a star since the SWPL 1 season restarted in April. The forward played a pivotal role during the season climax, starting seven out of their eight games in May. She scored six goals during the month including a brace in a vital 2-0 win away to Rangers.
Speaking from Costa Rica, where she is currently on International duty, Chinchilla said: “I’m so happy to have won this award. Winning the league title with Glasgow City was always my main goal but to be recognised for my contribution is an amazing feeling.
“Moving to a new country and adapting to many new things is never simple but everybody at the club have made things as easy as possible. I’m enjoying playing football in Scotland for Glasgow City and I feel I’m making a positive impact in the team.”
Chinchilla becomes the first international player to win the award. She also received the Coaches Player of the Season award alongside Janine Van Wyk, capping off a spectacular month for the forward.
“I want to thank everyone who voted for me and to everyone at Glasgow City” said Chinchilla. “I’m excited for the new season and to play my part in more success at the club.”
Paul Denton, Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Building Society, said: “Congratulations to Chinchilla on winning the award for May. She has lit up SWPL 1 since her arrival at Glasgow City and played a big part in their defence of the league title.
Also nominated for the May award was former winners Colette Cavanagh (Hibernian), Lisa Robertson (Celtic), and Michaela McAlonie (Spartans).
