#SBSSWPL Preview – 19/11/17

It is the final weekend of the 2017 Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 season, and whilst relegation and promotion have been wrapped up, there are four exciting games.

End Of A Legend

Hamilton Academical host Rangers, and not only will they be looking to celebrate securing their place in the 2018 #SBSSWPL 1, but it will also be the end of an era. Goalkeeper Elaine Fleming has been with the club for twenty years and is hanging up her boots after the game. She has been an astonishing servant to the club and Hamilton will be looking to get a win and a clean sheet for a perfect way for her to end her playing career.

Rangers will not be making it easy for them and they will be wanting to bounce back from their 5-1 defeat to Celtic. They contain an exciting and hard-working side, and their young forward Lauren Davidson has been one of the stars of the second half of the season.

Battle For Fourth

Spartans and Stirling University will be battling for fourth place, the last position to be decided. The two teams have home games against teams that have finished above them. Currently, the two teams are separated only by six goals.

Stirling University host Celtic who are only four points ahead of them, whilst Spartans hosts runners-up Hibernian.

Celtic’s win last Sunday against Rangers meant they have guaranteed a third-place finish, but they will still be wanting to end the season with a victory. Stirling have been a very tricky side this year and will be aiming to replicate last season’s fourth-placed finish.

Hibernian cannot win the title after losing 3-0 to Glasgow City, but they have the SSE Scottish Cup to prepare for. There will be no letting up against a Spartans side that has scored six goals in their past two wins, with the Hibs’ players making sure they play themselves into Kevin Milne’s final plans.

Champions Travel North

The 2017 SBS SWPL 1 champions Glasgow City face the long trip up to Aberdeen with both sides having contrasting fortunes with the north-east side’s relegation confirmed last Sunday.

Aberdeen has a very young exciting side, including Megan Reid who has been nominated for the SBSSWPL October Player of the Month and will be hoping to bounce back to the top flight next season. They will be wanting to give their fans a great performance in their final game of the season.

Glasgow City won’t be taking it easy as if they avoid defeat, they will have gone the season unbeaten. Extraordinarily, if they don’t concede a goal, they will have kept clean sheets in all their league games since the 17th of May. Their players will be looking to prepare for the SSE Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian.
